Tanto Koshira-e
This Tanto Koshira-e is comprised of bronze koiguchi (fitting to the mouth of the scabbard), kashira (hilt pommel), kojiri (butt piece) all in simplistic design. The Sageo (belt cord) and Ito (hand wrap) in blue silk and black lacquer Saya (scabbard). The menuki (decretive hilt fitting) is in the form of a Vajra (Tibetan thunderbolt rattle).
The Vajra is part of Tibetan Buddhist ritual practice along with the bell. It is most closely related to Vajrayana Buddhism symbolising the thunderbolt like experience of instant enlightenment that when seen is seen in an instant.
